Brief Bio/Statement: Ben Hamburger

 

Ben Hamburger is an artist and educator born and raised outside of Washington DC, currently living and working in North Carolina. Hamburger paints, facilitates workshops, and collaborates with diverse communities around the world. Working within the convergence of visual art and social engagement, Hamburger’s work is driven by his sense of place and belief in the potential of art to connect and find meaning in complex situations.

Hamburger holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Community Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Hamburger has worked in schools, cultural institutions, and non-profit organizations around the United States, in Bolivia, Thailand, and India. Hamburger has been the recipient of several grants and fellowships and is a funded member of Alternate ROOTS, an arts and activism organization in the Southern United States. Hamburger’s work has been featured in Voice of America, Tampa Bay Times, The Baltimore Sun, local public radio station, WYPR, and Baltimore Style. His artwork is part of the permanent collection of the City of New Orleans and private collections around the world.
