Louise Guidry

A St. Martinville native, Louise Guidry has been painting and drawing since early childhood, a lifelong pursuit.  Now, 87 years old, Louise is still producing incredible work with regular showings.  Her art has been and is bringing artistic beauty and a sense of peace through the inner and outer journeys that her paintings offer.  Her work is represented and can be found in homes, galleries, and public spaces both locally and around the globe.  From the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion to distant places as far reaching as India and Japan her pieces continue to grace homes as well as the corporate world around the globe.  She taught in Elementary school from 1964 until retirement in 1994.  During the summer semesters she taught painting and drawing to children and adults at the Continuing Education Department of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Senior Art Studio of the city of Lafayette, and private lessons at her home studio in St. Martinville.

In 1984 Guidry started work on a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  She earned her B.F.A. with a concentration in painting in 1988.  Louise Guidry is an award-winning artist earning numerous awards in many prestigious shows throughout the country and abroad.  Her paintings are represented in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S., France, Japan, and India.

Artist's Statement:

"My work focuses primarily on the dynamic interplay between color and texture.  Each piece is an ongoing visual diary of thoughts, memories, and sketches, not only of the great natural beauty of my immediate environment, but also that of other places I have visited.  A magic mixture of sun and shadow, land and water, architecture, sacred elements, and a diversity of cultures has given me a great wealth of inspiration from which I produce my art."
