Growing
up in Southeast Texas, I have come to appreciate the natural beauty in
the area. I am an avid outdoorsman and really enjoy the bayous and
swamps filled with beautiful cypress trees . These trees are
breathtaking with the Spanish moss gracefully hanging from their limbs.
The abundant wildlife that inhabits these swamps and bayous inspires my
art. While fishing, I often leave my rod and reel and explore the swamps
on foot. I find fallen limbs and discarded cypress logs. Some of these
logs could have been discarded over one hundred years before o find
them. I feel it is important not to destroy any living tree, but to take
what mother nature has provided. All of my pieces are from old growth
cypress. (Most of the fishing lures are made of cypress that can date
back eight hundred years.) I try to leave the wood as found and modify
it minimally to bring out the natural textures and shades. My art is my
attempt to share my love of nature with others.
