CAROLYN SCALFANO

Carolyn Scalfano was born in 1985 in Greenville, South Carolina.  She has been a resident of Lafayette since 2005.  Carolyn received her BFA in painting in 2008 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  Her work has been exhibited throughout the state of Louisiana and in Washington DC.  Her influences include the Bay Area Painters of the 1950s and 60s, especially David Hockney, as well as Francis Bacon, Winslow Homer, and John Singer Sargent.

My paintings are created environments.  The images within them pertain to personal history and selective memory.  The dislocation of form simulates my thoughts.  In presenting specific information and showing the processes by which the painting is made, I allow the viewer to complete the ideas and make their own associations about what is going on in the work.
